Not Quite There Yet

Two middle-aged people in love, running down a...

When you are middle aged

Is this the time to begin

To live and discover

Or maybe to sin.

Should we act our age

As people wish us to do

Is it to late to find

A man and say I do.

Is your life half over

Or has it just begun

Has your better half gone

And left you as one.

Do you really want to

Go to bed at ten

Or do you want to go out

And come back when.

It’s a hard thing to swallow

When you reach this point

You have raised your family

And you feel it in the joints.

Not quite ready for the rocker

And not ready to dance

Maybe just a little companion

And a little romance.

Let me live the life

That I once have done

Let me soar with the birds

Until the last song is sung.

Chapter 12

English: Pin setter boys at a Pittsburgh bowli...

Life looked good from the outside. Henry had two jobs. He bagged groceries through the day for a few hours and then he went to his full-time job in the evenings at the bowling alley. He was ready for the next step.

Tomorrow he was going to get hitched. Jane and him were doing what was right. They were going to have a kid and that kid deserved two parents. He thought about his own parents and how he wished that things were different in some areas but at least he had them both.

After breakfast was finished, he hopped in his car and went over to Jane’s house. She opened the door before he even had a chance to knock. “What you doing doll? You packing up some of your clothes? I wanted to come over and see if you had anything ready that I could take to the house before I went to work”.

Jane led him to her bedroom and he looked at the bags laying on her bed. ” I guess you have been the busy beaver. Look at all this crap. Are you sure you really need all this stuff? Aren’t I enough for you to live on”?

Jane laughed and said, ” I must have clothes silly goose. You don’t want me walking around naked in front of you parents do you”?

Henry snickered as he thought of Jane scampering through the house with a big belly. “Nope, I don’t want you showing yourself to anyone but me baby. Your body is just for me. Besides, I was just playing with you. I guess I will start loading up your precious clothes and then get to work”.

Jane gave him a peck on the forehead and helped him carry the bags to the front door. He loaded them and then kissed her goodbye. They planned to meet after his final shift at the bowling alley. He started to leave and turned back to her and asked,”You do have your blood test right babe? You know the big day is tomorrow”.

“Yes, quit worrying, get to work or you will be late. You got your test, and I got mine. Now get going”. They both laughed and waved at each other and then he took off. It took him longer to get her stuff in the car so he would just take care of it between jobs.

He went to work at the grocery store. He really did like his job, he was thinking. Lot of people coming in and out. Some days good tips for loading up their cars. He was bagging one lady’s  groceries and when he was finished he took them to her car. After making sure the cart was empty he turned to leave and she called out to him.”Hang on there Henry. I got something for you”.

She got in her purse and pulled out a card saying,”I found out you are getting married tomorrow from some of the ladies that work here. Hope you don’t mind them blabbing your news. Anyways, I wanted to give you this card”.  Henry looked at the card and started to place it in his apron and she said, “Wait, don’t leave. Open it now. I want to see your eyes”.

Henry gave her that special grin that showed two dimples. He tore open the card and saw it was a congratulations  card. Inside was a check for one hundred dollars. He started to say something but she interrupted him by saying,” Now don’t you go and say anything Henry. You are a good boy and you work hard. Take this money and use it for something you two can use”.

Henry leaned over and gave her a kiss on the cheek. He said,”Gee’s Mrs. T, I just don’t know what to say. All I can think of is thanks”.

“That is all I wanted to hear. Now go back to work before I get you in trouble. Have a good day tomorrow”. She turned and got in her car and he waved to her as she was leaving. He tucked the money into his billfold and went back to work whistling. He knew exactly what he was going to do with this money.

His four-hour shift ended in no time and he punched out and drove home. He took the bags two at a time and took them inside. Placing them on his bed, he opened each of them to just take a peek at what she had brought. Dang do all women need this many clothes? I don’t even have half this much. I better make some space in my closet for her and empty out a couple of drawers.

Henry spent the rest of his free time getting the room all in shape for his new wife. He changed the sheets, rearranged his dresser and closet. After he finished he heard his stomach rumbling so went out to the kitchen

His mom was sitting there working one of those crossword puzzles. ” Got anything good to eat mom? I’m starving”.

“There should be something there Henry, just take a look. I noticed you bringing in all those bags. Are those Jane’s belongings”?

“Yeah mom they are. She sure does have a lot of stuff doesn’t she”?

“I hope that is it. You won’t have any room to sleep if anymore is brought. She can just leave the rest of her stuff at her house. When you two get your own place then you can crowd up your own home”. The two laughed and Henry started pulling out left-over chicken and some of his mom’s home-made potato salad.

“Tomorrow is the big day Henry. Are you sure you want to go through this? Just because she is going to have a baby, doesn’t mean you have to marry her”.

“Mom, I love Jane. I want to marry her. Sure I wasn’t expecting some kid right a way, but I want to do what’s right”. Carol got up and went over and ruffled his wavy hair. The two smiled at each other and then she left him to eat.

Henry cleaned up his mess and then changed clothes and off to his other job he went. Clocking in he went to the back and Carl was waiting for him. “I hear that you’re getting hitched tomorrow Henry. I hope you will be very happy. Here is a card from all of us here at work. Good luck kid, and by the way, I heard you did a really good job last night, keep it up”.

“Thanks boss, and thanks for the card. I am sure we are going to do just fine. When you find a girl like Jane you want to snap her up before someone else turns her head”. With that being said the two laughed and then the boss left him to do his job.

Henry opened up his second card and it was signed by everyone. There was also a fifty dollar bill laying there. Wow, I feel so rich. One hundred and fifty dollars. He tucked it a way with the other money and went to work.

When you were 16, what did you think your life would look like? Does it look like that? Is that a good thing?

I don’t remember a whole lot at the age of 16. I do remember me getting my driver’s license. I had my first job. Mom and Dad always said if you want extra’s in life, work for it. I remember in my mind thinking that I was going to be in the health care field. It wasn’t going to be what I am actually doing today. I was going to be a Physical Therapist or a counselor for teens.

Life was fairly simple at that age. The normal drama that teens go through was really not that much out of the norm. Dating, good grades, helping out at home, and getting a pay check, and most of all friends. Not one or two, but as many as I could gather. Quality was not the issue then, quantity was.

I dreamed of getting married and having kids. I dreamed of the happily ever after that a lot of girls do. It doesn’t always work out this way, and it didn’t for me either. God brings changes and test in to our lives to strengthen us and hopefully find our own path in life as individuals.

Today, I have been married and am divorced. I did have the fairy tale dream for a while, but that was short-lived. I do have three wonderful and beautiful kids. I guess they are not kids any longer but in my heart they are still my kids.

I did go into health care, but on a more personal level. I did schooling and certificates, but have spent the last 23 years taking care of someone else. The goal was not like I thought it would be. Help them heal and they walk out of my office in the end, paying me and skipping on through life.

My goal now is to bring comfort. To wipe the brow of a lonesome soul. To gently wash the tears a way. To bring comfort the only way I know how through my words and touch. I am proud of where I have been led. I have come to know many wonderful human beings. I have touched hearts and souls with so many.

I may not have a glamour life. I may not spend my spare evenings dancing and bar hopping. I may not even be the life of the party. But, I am where I am supposed to be at this time in my life.

Now with Al being in another home, I am searching for the road that will lead me further into helping another soul. Maybe it will not be in health care. Maybe it will be through my words. I don’t know. I loved my dreams back when I was sixteen, but I love me more for the lives I have been able to touch and heal.

What Is Considered A Friend

This is for my friends, but especially for sha...

What is the definition of friendship;

Friendship is a personal relationship shared between each friend for the welfare of other, in other words, it is the relationship of trust, faith and concern for each other feelings. It is a relationship of mutual caring and intimacy among one another. A friend is one who knows you as a person and regards you for what you are and not what he or she is looking in a good friend. Best friend is one who accepts the good as well bad qualities of his friend and also takes an initiative in correcting and mending them. Friendship is a distinctive kind of concern for your friend, it is a relationship of immense faith and love for each other.

Friendship is all about how much you care and understand each other. It is a pure relationship, which would make your friend smile, feel good as to how much you love him and care for him. It is all about talking, listening and building up a strong relationship loyalty among each other. It is string of love which develops gradually with each others involvement. In certain cases friendship may not last for a longer period and might end up or lose its prime importance of love and regard for each other. There are some friendships which might end with unresolved conflicts and tiffs which means that these type of relationship were not so strong that could hold on their own in adversity and bad times. Friendship is not about merry-making and fun it involves equal loyalty from both the partners.

It should be understood that not all friends are best friends. One might come across numerous number of friends in his life but there are very few who will be their during your ups and down. How one should recognize your best friend the one who will understand your strengths and shortcomings and would be with you in all your good and bad phases of life.

A true friendship does not consist of a huge number of friends you keep but it is valued by its worth and capability to hold you and stand by you in all phases of life. That said finding a best friend from among your friends is the hardest task to do.A lot of people say that the best friends automatically come closer from among a group of friends and you will never have to make an extra effort to do find one. That is how the strong bond between true friends is formed.

Can you have a friend without ever meeting

Does this friend keep your heart beating

Do you have to see their face to see

Do you have to beg on bended knee

Can you accept the words they say

Can this type of friend brighten your day

Can your heart break when their days gone bad

Can you feel their joy and the pain they had

Do we have to know where others live

Do we need their history in order to give

Friends come in many shapes and forms

Not all are formed in the way of norm

Friends I have met here on this page

Friend I have made through a working wage

Friends I have known all of my days

All I know is this is what I need

To know that someone cares and planted the seed.

Thank-you to all of you who have decided to step out in faith and plant the seed. I have gone through so much grief, pain and sadness. I don’t know what I would do without you. Words of encouragement go far. Prayers are always accepted. Truth is spoken. The heart is touched. Healing begins. Faith is made stronger.
