Your Journey Is Over

shade tree

You brought joy to my life

You made me feel so loved

We’d spend afternoons together

Walking the raspberries or

The flower beds around the house

Cinnamon rolls were your best

And jams and jellies too

Sitting out under the big shade tree

Watching the birds and kids play

Holidays and birthdays

What ever reason so we could be with you

Trips to town to pick out treats

The kids were wanting to spend

The nights so often

You were my mother-in-law

And the best Grandma too

Only last night in the wee morning

Did I find out that you had a visitor

The angels came for you

And carried you to heaven

My stomach knotted up

And tears began to flow

Spending wee hours in the night

Helping my kids to cope

With their sadness

This is what mothers do

Be their comfy blanket

One to fall back on

This is the way I remember you

A soft place to fall back on

Away from the noise

Only nature and love

Surrounding my memories of you

I shall always remember

Your soft gentle eyes

The way you smiled when I spoke

When I look up into the heavens

I have no doubt that you

And your husband

Will be holding hands

And looking down on us

And smiling now that

You two are back together.

~Psalms 23:1-6~

The LORD is my Shepherd, I shall not  want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
He leads me beside quiet waters, He restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil, for You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life,
And I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
Amen.

  1. The circle of life has ended for this dear woman but her circle still grows with you and her other family members. Remember her, speak of her often, love her and show her love through you to others, continuing what made you happy about her and blessing them with that love. she is at peace, happy and living now with the greatest love of all.
take heart that her life was full she loved and was loved. May God give you and your family solace at this time. Love

  3. So sorry Terry, I know how it feels and send you my love and hugs. As you say, we all will be together one day with the ones we lost ( your mother in law is together with her husband) and this is a great comfort to know. xx

  4. Sorry for your loss Terry. I too am praying that God will be especially close to you and other family members as you travel through the grieving process. It is so hard to lose loved ones. I wish we didn’t have to go through this but we do and God will help you if you have faith and don’t stop believing that He is right there with you. Much love to you Terry.

  5. The hardest moments in life are those when we have to say goodbye and when its a parent, a partner’s parent, a loved one who has meant so much to our family’s lives for so long, that loss becomes all the harder to accept, to rationalize, to cope with. We live each day wanting to believe in everlasting life though knowing that the reality differs from what we long to be. Your words here bring to mind my own parents now gone. How I wish I could reach out and touch them to this day…someday.

      • You’re very welcome. I’m glad that my reflections helped. Some things seem just out of reach to grasp yet I have a real sense that my mom and dad remain close, watching, smiling, guiding…and ultimately awaiting a time when we will one day be together once again. That sense remains close to the heart, mind and soul each day of my life…and always will. There is no truer comfort than that.
