Little Video of Al and Pictures

Well the first full day is almost over with me and Al. I think that I would pretty well consider him incontinent with the bladder area. He has been very wet every time I have checked. I try to put him on the bed side commode but nothing happens.

He ate pretty good all of his meals today. He also adds some variety to each meat with his new song I heard. I learned the words very quickly. He cusses a way at the disease telling it off like you wouldn’t believe.

Normally, I would intervene here with some words of wisdom, but I can’t do it. I see how hard it is to get a spoon to his mouth. I see how many seconds he fights and fights. He is learning to take my cue and eat more foods with his fingers.

I took some shots at supper so you can understand what I see. I have one short video, a couple of shots of him, and of course you know who was guarding the house. Yep, Rhino.

    • it is very hard for him. I find myself feeding or helping him to eat more and more. It is a shame, this disease is just a shame. Thanks for letting me know you like my table!!!!! Al hasn’t even noticed it but who cares!!!!!

      • it’s a wicked wicked disease. i follow another blogger on here who has young onset parkinsons. He’s my age 42 and he’s an amazing artist, but he’s fairly advanced with the disease and having more and more trouble.

      • Al has been diagnosed last week with a more up to date illness. He has M.S.A. This disease progresses very quickly. This is why Hospice is here

  1. Thoughts are with you Terry…. How do you manage to deal with the incontinence.. it must be kind of hard . Are there any options. I know when my Mom started having those issues it was hard..keeping furniture etc. protected and the changing of course… Diane

    • he tries so hard but the fact is the disease is causing his system to be out of whack, including incontinence. he is always wet and needs changed. I just do what I need to do, because I love him and I want him to have what he needs, even changing him several times a day. I use pads to protect furniture

  2. I just love him… He tries so hard…and I love you for caring so much…I know he is your brother…but, You have done well by him… I know he feels so much better being home…surrounded by his things he loves so much…including you…Meds probably make him sleep a lot…and that’s OK…probably no pain at that time…

  3. I am so sorry sweety and Know how hard this road has been for the both of you. As far as the incontinence they do have adult diapers or protectors he can wear and that will help with a big mess and his confidence and will keep his bed and anything he sits on or in dry. I see how hard it is for him to eat but showing him to eat more with his hands was a good idea on your part. Maybe some more finger foods may help too. I hope hospice can help a great deal for you both. Love and prayers to you both.

I will keep you lifted in prayer and from first hand experience I found people praying for me had indeed given me the strength to face each new day. Hugs ~ Patty

    • thank you Patty. When Al is sleeping I sometimes just want to sit here and cry for him. He is so miserable. Pain pills and sleep is when there is no emotion, no pain

  9. Al is really trying so hard — I know he is happier there with you, though! The thing about him suffering is that he does not have to do it alone — so many people are alone at the end of their lives, and I’d like to think it makes things at least a little more tolerable for Al that he is home with his loving sister. Despite the hardships, you will always be so glad you had this time with Al. Praying for strength for you, Terry, and peace.

    • thanks Becky. I love having Al here because I can show him he is not alone through this. It is so difficult to watch him but for him to suffer alone is too much for me to bear
