DANCING
I entered the party
I felt so out-of-place
All the people I saw dancing
I knew this was a waste
I went to the bar
I got myself a drink
I sat at a far table
Then I saw you and you winked
I looked behind me
To see who else sat near
There wasn’t anyone around
I wanted to run from fear
There has never been a soul
Who has made my heart beat race
But when I saw you smile
I felt connected to your face
The music changed its song
You got up and walked towards me
I sat frozen in my seat
Until your hand touched my knee
You then took my hand in yours
And asked me for a dance
I stood up feeling dizzy
I felt my body in trance
You moved so easily
Guiding me all around the floor
And when the music stopped
I knew I wanted more
You led me back to my seat
Then you asked if you could sit
I felt like Cinderella
Who had been lifted from the pit
We talked and danced
The hours seemed to fly
Then the party was over
We looked at each others eyes
You stood and touched my arm
Then led me towards the door
I knew this was a beginning
For now and ever more.

I imagine the 1920’s ballroom parties, gentlemen in black suits, and women in sleek dresses with high heels and stockings, smoking a cigarette in one of those long filters . . . just lovely. I want to experience a party like that one day!

Does your new location have a community activity where people go and learn to ballroom dance. We have 3 or 4 and Little Rock has a bunch. Individuals go and are taught by volunteers 2 hours before the floor is opened to everyone. We know a few couples that have met this way.

I have not heard of any yet. I know when Jan 1 rolls around a perk on my new health insurance allows a free membership to a place where you can swim and join exercise classes. I do plan on doing this

Great. The largest gym in our city has such a program and the dancing component is offered year round because of the high demand. We also have a program called Senior Sneakers that is well attended. There’re more classes than you can imagine. Tom and I have both taken a couple of the nutrition classes. It’s a great way to make new friends and it’s also safe (I hope yours is as safe as ours).
