Who Holds Our Privacy?

apple watchThe new Apple Watch. Wow, I am all for moving forward in the world; but are we crossing the line? I tend to be a little nervous about this. First, there is no trust or barely any trust in our world.

We don’t trust our neighbors. We question our government. We fight among our own blood. Yet we are more than willing to spend big dollars on a computer you would wear on your sleeve.

Also I learned. which really isn’t big news with all the hacking and spamming going on, people are beginning to put their plastic cards in their safe and start to carry cash. Isn’t the reason we got the cards in the beginning was so we didn’t have to carry cash?

Remember, we just knew for sure we would get robbed for our money by someone, anyone. You have to wonder if the idea of carrying cash will last long. Couldn’t it lead to putting the cash back in the mattress and replacing that with a chip inserted under our skin?

By moving forward are we still going to be the person we want to be? Will our privacy still be private? Isn’t there a chance that the more you place in another’s hand or brain, the less you own of yourself and thoughts?

What if we are wearing our watches, and the data on that is stolen? Will we lose an arm over this? Will someone else be able to read the information we are providing besides that little machine we are letting code us?

Worse yet, doesn’t it somehow seem similar  to what the Bible says; which is we will be marked by the beast to show we belong to the devil? I never want the numbers 666 to be broadcast on my forehead. I don’t want anyone to know anymore about me than they already do; unless I choose to share.

Every time I turn around Facebook is changing the Privacy rules. This in turn forces me to once again manually go reset my settings.  Do you know when Al died, most people already knew before I called them? How did these people know when they had nothing to do with Al and me for seven years? It is sort of spooky isn’t it.

Like I said, I am all for moving forward in life with modern technology; but I don’t think all moving will be beneficial to us. I sometimes have to wonder my friends, if money is not the goal of these new gadgets versus our safety and welfare. I am  positive that there are many  more intelligent beings walking this earth that could read this and give me good argument, but from a plainsman’s view, these are my thoughts.

  1. I agree with you. I don’t even sign up for rewards programs anymore because it all has to be done on the computer and I’m already on the computer way more than I like as it is. And, I don’t fancy putting anymore of my private info online than I absolutely have to. I don’t even online bank! Protecting our privacy begins at home.

Question: Once drones are out there for wider distribution am I going to need to keep my curtains drawn all the time? 😳

  2. You bring up a ton of good points Terry!!!!! I am starting to carry cash now too! Too much technology is hurting us, not helping us. I have a friend who works at a big bank up here in Toronto in Fraud and Loss and she still banks with passbooks, because of what comes across her desk everyday!!!!

    Hugs, Cathy
