I Don’t Know How Much More We Can Take

arabI heard on the news tonight about an Afghan 10 year-old girl being forced to carry a bomb on her. Here is a short story of what I heard.

A 10-year-old girl who apparently attempted to carry out a suicide attack wearing a vest packed with explosives has been detained by Afghan authorities.

The girl, named only as Spozhmai, appeared at a news conference in Lashkar Gah, capital of Helmand province.

She told how her brother, reportedly a Taliban commander, had forced her to wear the vest and ordered her to detonate herself at a police checkpoint.

“I was tired of my stepmother. My brother told me to wear the black vest, go to the police checkpoint and press the button,” she told reporters.

“I went past a river and decided to drop the vest. My brother fled and police arrested me.”

There are conflicting accounts of the incident, with some officials saying she was wearing the vest when she was arrested and others saying no vest had been recovered.

The Afghanistan-based Tolo TV news channel said the girl was unable to operate the button to detonate the explosives.

I DON’T KNOW LORD

I don’t know how much more

We can take before our government

And people unite as one

And love once reigns again.

How can we use our children

Dear Lord, are  you waiting

Standing back, waiting for one and all

You surely disagree with this.

I pray that whatever it is you wish

Dear Lord, that it comes to pass

And we are freed from this pain

Our earth is forced to endure.

For I don’t know how much more

I can personally take, when I

Think back and remember when

Our life was once peaceful and full of love.

The Changing Fast Food Industry

Can McDonalds go healthy?

fastfood

Fast food is popular among many because they are quick meal solutions to make everyone’s lives easier.  American’s enjoy their fast food and emerging markets are no exception because they are one of the fastest growing in the industry.  However, fast food restaurants are feeling increased pressure because of the rising food costs and health conscious consumers particularly Millennials.  Millennials are the last segment of the population that came to maturity around the year 2000.  They are the children of the post-WWII baby boomer generation that are known to enjoy fresh ingredients and watch what they eat.  Companies such as Panera, Chipotle, and Starbucks are doing well with the healthy trend while longtime fast food chains such as McDonalds, Burger King, and Wendy’s have reported a decline in revenue resulting from millennials.  Statistics over the years indicate high-income millennials and low-income millennials have declined in the consumption of greasy fast…

Roasted Chicken and Root Vegetables

a tasty and easy meal!

A Little Bit Of Lagniappe

There’s not a lot of dinners much simpler than roasting a chicken. Am I right, or am I right? To me, it is one of the easiest and delicious meals out there. It’s good for when you have a lot to do around the house and need something easy for dinner, it is easy for Sunday lunch, and it is even easy if you just want to eat it because it’s delicious.

You can use this recipe and change it however you’d like: different spices, herbs, and vegetables..they pretty much all taste great.

The Cast of Characters: whole chicken, sweet potato, russet potato, carrots, onion, salt, pepper, olive oil, worcestershire, liquid smoke , rosemary, and basil.

Roasted Chicken 1

To begin, go ahead rinse, pat dry, pull the bag out of the cavity and butterfly your whole chicken by cutting the backbone out. If you don’t know exactly how to butterfly a chicken, you…

Choose Your Adventure

Write a story or post with an open ending, and let your readers invent the conclusion.

New Year’s Eve; a night of romance and new beginnings. Out with the old as they say. Julie had a pretty good old year and with her new resolutions she had made tonight, she was looking forward to the months ahead.

Julie was popular at school. She was in the tenth grade. She was smart, but it didn’t always show on her report cards. Boys seemed to take the top on her priority list. She had a steady boyfriend. She also knew that she would be heart-broken if they split, but there was always another waiting in line.

It is true that many wanted to date her. I don’t believe it was because of her outer beauty. Julie had a reputation that made guys huddle on a Friday night and speak their thoughts about what it would be like to be with her; if only for one night.

Teddy was a new boy at school. He wasn’t the most handsome stud, but ugly was not in the dictionary for him. He saw Julie and he wanted to date her also. He would leave notes on her locker.

Once he had flowers sent to her house. He would follow her as she walked home from school, staying far enough behind in his car so she wouldn’t notice. It was fall and within a month, a Halloween dance was coming.

Teddy wanted to ask her to go, but he didn’t have the guts. Insecurity was his middle name. A couple of days before the dance  he went to the shopping center and searched costumes and masks.

Trying the masks on and looking at himself in the small mirror, he finally decided on one. He paid for it and drove home smiling. The dance arrived. He had overheard Julie telling her friends that she would meet them at the school at 6:30 that night.

Teddy got in his car. He looked over to the passenger seat where the mask laid. He started the car and drove in Julie’s direction of her house. He didn’t see her so he went around the block a few times.

There she was. She was beautiful. He sucked in his breath as he pulled next to the curb and slid the mask over his face. He slowly drove up near her, checking out his where-a-bouts.

The timing was perfect. He pulled up beside her. He put his car in park. He got  out and went around to the opposite side, opening up the back door. He ran up to Julie and grabbed her. Before she could get any words out she had been placed in the back seat. Teddy jumped in the driver’s seat and took off.

What happens next folks?

Time, once again, to give me your opinion on the short topic below.

Susie and Norman lived in an average  house. They had average incomes and the normal two kids, one boy, one girl. The parents had always let the kids make decisions for themselves if they could.

The son had longer hair than what the parents believed reasonable; but, hey, he wasn’t hurting anyone and would out grow it. Jeans would show the butt-crack and they did have to remind him to pull them up.

The daughter had lots of friends. She wore what most teens her age wore. Then a day came when a friend of hers and she got into a big fight. From that day on, it was never resolved.

She didn’t feel the same about herself and became aloof. She started dating a guy that her parents thought looked way out there. They didn’t approve. Too long of hair, nose rings, earrings, holy jeans and a motorcycle.

For the first time the parents became concerned about where their daughter was headed. What should they do?

Alright, time for you to tell me your thoughts on this. Answer below in the Reply section. Thanks

Camera, Rest Break is Over

Rain, this is what my part of the world looks like. According to the weather, we can expect these warmer, dreary and rainy days for the rest of this week. I don’t mind, as I know it won’t be long until the sun will shine and the heat outdoors will kick into higher mode.

I had to run to Wal-Mart today. When I came out I saw these birds in flight so thought I would give my camera a break from rest. When I returned home I had a box waiting for me.

I had been with my granddaughter last week and probably got caught up in her excitement about wigs and extensions. She ordered a couple which won’t be here for a while and I thought, : what the heck, I will order a cheapie too for me.” Well mine was what was in the box.

I guess it will be fun. I can forget trying to do my hair and throw this on, like an old, familiar hat. So what do you think? Should I let my hair grow out and get this look in my real hair? Or, should I just consider it a fun thing?
