Did any of you watch the Dr. Phil show today? It was sad and I got angry at seeing some smiles and laughter in the audience. Scammers on the elderly; this was the topic. I always say if the scammers and cheaters of our world would spend half the time thinking about work as much as they ponder on scamming, we would see many a genius walking around.
I felt bad for the lady. She claimed she loved her husband who had died earlier; but she had not been in love with him. She is 71 years old and before she dies, she wants to be in love.
One of those scammers from another part of the world has got a strong hold on her. Now I should say here that this has not been proven by the show as of yet. There is a part 2 tomorrow afternoon; but even the previews seem to lean on it being a scam, so I don’t want to say scammer for sure. Maybe I should say, possible scam alert!
So this woman who desperately wanted to fall in love finds the perfect man online. Dark hair, beautiful eyes, so polite. They never meet but through love-talk emails, texts, and phone calls, he somehow manages to get $218,000 from her.
It is so bad, that she even lost her home because she was giving this guy so much money each month she couldn’t keep up her house payments. Her step-daughter was on the show and the dagger words that flew back and forth just about killed me.
It was very hard to decide whether the two ladies were fighting because mom lost all her money, or the daughter had so many items purchased by mom, such as a new updated kitchen, that she was mad because mom had no more money. Like I said, it was hard for me to tell.
The whole thing is sad. To want something so bad, you will give up all you have for someone who may or not exist. Is this what people are thinking when they see no other way out but suicide?
I will watch tomorrow to see if my hunch is right, a scammer on the take. I sure hope this mom and step-daughter can find their way back to each other. If you have an elderly family member or an older neighbor you are friends with, and if they have access to a computer, please, please teach them about the scammers, especially the ones who like to clean house of the elderly.

So sad, there are so many heartless individuals lurking, it’s up to people to become aware & enlightened. The way to a person is always through their heart, that’s why so many fall prey. I love the elderly, but people have to be conscious of those who don’t.

Exactly my point, This is why elderly are the so called easy targets, I hate how they are deceived by window installers, roof repairs, house painters, money scammers. The list goes on and on

Terry – This is an important post. White collar crime is everywhere in our society and the elderly are especially vulnerable. You are more than likely correct in that the step-daughter is angry because the step-mother lost all of her money and now can’t spend on her. If this is the case, the step-daughter was running her own scam. It’s simply that we don’t call is a scam because they are related.
It’s also unfortunate that the crimes against the elderly are rarely prosecuted because they are so hard to build a case on. The time involved simply doesn’t get the pay off the government requires. Therefore, the criminals keep getting away with what they are doing.
Scams such as this are also started over the telephone. It may start out as a wrong number and a person of the opposite sex will discover someone that sounds lonely and then all of a sudden start a conversation with them and before you know it, the extortion begins. Everyone must be on guard. People who scam for a living are in all walks of life.

Very true and the issue of not being able to fight back and have money returned makes me so angry. I wonder if there is a place for me to help do the fighting for them. I am no one important but I do very much care

Terry….I watched this too and am planning to watch the part 2 today. It was so sad.
The woman is so full of anger and underneath it all I think she is embarrassed.
Seems like a scam to me…..

Maybe the daughter is angry because she is scared, scared she will have to pick up the pieces take in her mother who will be embittered by the experience, also I am guessing this daughter loved her dad very much and is now having to listen to her mom/stepmom saying she wasn’t in love with him and she is giving everything her dad helped build up away to another man. Yes she might come across as upset she is no longer getting anything out of her mom/stepmom but I should imagine there are lots of things going through the daughters head

people laugh when they are nervous. when we see someone being completely foolish it makes us uneasy. we like to think we could not be cheated or scammed the same way this poor sap was. we all want that chance at love don’t we? the thing is we have so many types of love and yet too many are willing to sell their souls for this elusive love.
