I was sitting on the bus which was taking me home when I  heard one of the people state the fact that she didn’t know where the years had went. It made me think back to when I was a kid.

I couldn’t wait to get dressed, eat breakfast and go outside and ride my bike. I couldn’t wait until school was out so I could sleep in. I couldn’t wait until I was old enough to be kissed by a boy. It was just too hard to wait until I was old enough to get my driver’s permit.

I couldn’t wait to get my very own car. I couldn’t wait to get my first job. I couldn’t wait until prom got here. I couldn’t wait to get married. I couldn’t wait until I had my first child. I couldn’t wait to own my very first house.

I couldn’t wait to move  up in my job. I couldn’t wait until the baby could walk. I couldn’t wait when I no longer had to buy diapers. I couldn’t wait until they went back to school. I couldn’t wait until they learned to drive themselves to places. I couldn’t wait until they graduated from high school.

I couldn’t wait until they got married. I couldn’t wait to see my first grandchild. I couldn’t wait to go on my first cruise. I couldn’t wait to retire. I couldn’t wait to sleep in. I couldn’t wait to quit turning off that alarm clock.

Now I can wait to go to the doctor. I can wait to go get the mail. I can wait on having to file for Social Security. I can wait now on dinner; a nap is much more important. I can wait on the bad weather to do my grocery shopping. I can wait as long as it takes for my spouse to get through the cancer treatments.

I can wait through the silence now that my spouse is gone. I can wait and wonder if I will see my grandbabies this week. I can wait on picking out my funeral. I can wait and watch the flowers blooming. I can wait by the window and see the clouds floating by.

I can wait and take notice of what I once took for granted. I can wait for the ambulance that is coming to take me to the hospital. I can wait on my death-bed as I patiently wait for visitors to arrive.

Life passes us by so quick. Do you take the time to notice what is happening around you?

Don’t forget to stop and smell the roses, my friends.
