I believe many are forced into the homeless state because of excessive debt and job losses. But I do believe some choose that way because they are simply loners, cannot work possibly because of mental illness. Some spend most of their money, if they have any, on drugs and/or alcohol and have nothing left to support themselves. Some may have had families but have lost them because of their addictions and the behavior that usually accompanies addictions. Many simply have no options. They try their best to get off the streets, but without a job it is not possible to pay for any kind of home.
