Honest Answers Only

This class that I started today was pretty good. I found out that on January 24th they are meeting as a group to socialize at a local restaurant and have invited me to go. This would be good for me. The highlight of the luncheon is reading books and discussing them. The teacher of the class asked me if I read books, and I kind of chuckled and said no, but I write and have written one book and started another. She seemed excited. She treated me like I was someone famous. I laughed out loud, because I definitely am not famous.

Now I wish I would have lied and said yes I read books. She wants me to read one of my poems or a short story. You know me. I don’t think I am good enough or have enough talent to read in front of people.

Give me your honest opinion. Do you think I should do this? Or will I make a fool of myself in front of these nice people? Should I politely turn her request down?

Chapter 6

Henry’s cutting up stopped abruptly as the words Jane spoke sank in his mind. “Pregnant? pregnant? How in the world did you get pregnant? Who have you been sleeping with”? Jane burst into tears as she reached over and slapped Henry on the shoulder. ” You dummy! You are the one I been sleeping with! How could you ask something like that? You know there hasn’t been anyone besides you”!

Henry brushed his shoulder off and then took his arm and pulled her over to him.” I’m sorry baby. I guess I was just taken aback when you told me. I thought we used good protection”. Jane raised her head up to him; her eyes locked on his. ” What protection did we ever use? Are you sure it isn’t you that is cheating? You know we haven’t used any kind

of protection”. “Well, I thought you always went home and took a bath when we got done messing around”, Henry said as he turned his head away.

He took his toothpick out of his shirt pocket and began to chew on it; trying to think of a way around this. Jane tugged on his shirt until he was forced to look at her again. Through teary eyes she asked, “What are we going to do Henry? What are we going to do with this baby? Do you still love me? You are going to stick around aren’t you? You aren’t going to go and run off are you”?

Henry wasn’t going to run off and he told her so. He also realized that he didn’t make the kind of money it was going to take to raise a kid. He looked at her and said,” The first thing we need to do is get in there and tell your mom and dad, then go tell my parents”. Both sat in silence letting this thought roll around in their heads. With a smudge of fear in Jane’s voice she asked, ” Do you really think that is a good idea involving the parents? What are they going to say? What if they kick me out or turn their backs on us”?

Henry chewed on his toothpick again and hesitated before answering then said,” We have to tell them. We have to get that out-of-the-way first. We need to know if they are going to be behind us or against us”. Jane nodded in agreement, but was not looking forward to any of this.

They both opened their car doors and got out and grabbing onto each others hands, they walked up to the front door. When Jane walked in she saw her parents watching television. Henry followed her to the couch and the two sat down. Her parents looked at her odd, because they were interrupting their television program. Silence hit the room like a brick. All that could be heard was the sounds from the box they were watching.

“What’s up with you two”? Dave asked. “We’re watching this program. If you got something to say, spit it out”. Debbie looked over at the two and became a little nervous. She thought, this must be something bad. These two never come in and talk to us. I don’t know if I want to stay here and hear what they have to say. With this thought Carol stood up to go out into the kitchen but Jane stopped her by saying, ” Wait mom, come back and sit down. Henry and me, well us two have something to tell you and you probably aren’t going to like it”. Debbie sat back down and began started playing with her fingers nervously.

“Now what the hell is going on”? Dave asked. ” You march in here and you sit right here so we can’t watch our program and then you say you need to tell us something. Spit it out girl! Quit beating around the bush”!

Jane held Henry’s hand a little tighter. She looked at Henry and then at her parents. She started to say something when Henry spoke up. ” Dave, Debbie, I want to marry your daughter. We are in love and we want to get married”. The two parents looked at each other and then started to laugh.

“Well why the hell didn’t you just tell us when you first sat down? You get us all worried something bad has happened and here you just want to marry our kid”. Dave stood up and walked over to Henry and patted him on the back. Debbie went to her daughter and told her congratulations. Everyone smiled but Jane. She was thinking, What the hell just happened? Did he just tell my parents he loved me? Did he just let them know he wanted to marry me?

Jane looked over at the three of them. None of this was sinking in. My parents are happy about all this. They don’t care if we get married. They don’t even know about the baby yet, and they are still happy?

Then it sunk in. She was pregnant. He was going to marry me. He is not leaving me here hanging! She walked over to Henry and gave him a big hug, and then her dad asked, “When you two getting hitched”? Jane and Henry glanced at each other and then Henry said calmly, ” Soon, very soon. We need to run over to my house and tell my parents and then we will decide on a date. It won’t be any big deal. We can get married at the Justice of the Peace. So we will just pick a day and then let you know”.

With this all being said, Jane and Henry walked into the kitchen with big smiles on their faces. Jane made each of them a sandwich and while they were eating  Jane lowered her voice and said, ” Do you really mean what you said in there? You want to marry me? Does this mean we are going to raise this kid together”? Henry looked into her eyes while he took another bite. ” Of course baby. You know I love you. I just have to get a better paying job and then we will be alright”. With that being said they finished their sandwich and then went back to the living room and  Jane told her parents that they would be back. They were going over to his mom and dads now. Dave nodded letting her know he heard her, and then went back to watching his favorite show.

Chapter 4

A picture of a door handle.

Laurie and Jane walked to the clinic, and both girls stood outside for a minute. Jane said, ” I don’t know if I really want to do this. What if I find out I am pregnant? What will I do then”? Laurie put her arm around her friend and said  in a matter of fact tone, ” And what if you find out you are not? We won’t know until we go in there. Now come on silly girl, let’s get this over”!

Jane timidly placed her hand on the door handle and both girls walked in. Jane  went to the seats that were in the waiting room and sat. Laurie went to the receptionist window and announced her friend’s name.

Sally, the  receptionist handed her a clipboard with some white pages attached to it, and  said, ” Have your friend fill these out, and then have her bring them back to me”. Laurie took them from her and walked over to where Jane was sitting and handed her the paperwork.

Jane filled out the paper work, while Laurie rambled on in Jane’s ear. After finishing the required forms, Jane slowly walked up to the window, and as she handed her the completed file, the receptionist asked,” Do you have any insurance Jane”? Jane nodded no, and the receptionist noted this on her file, then asked, ” Do you have any cash on you? This visit will cost ten dollars”.

Jane again nodded no, and then Laurie appeared at her side, and whipped out a ten-dollar bill, and said,” Here is the money, now it is paid”. With this being done, the receptionist told them to have a seat, that they would be called next.

The two girls went back to where they had been sitting, and Laurie started talking about what they were going to do once they left here. They could go to the park, or maybe go get something to eat, but the words fell on empty ears, as Jane was in her own world at the moment.

The announcement was made, a young lady was calling Jane’s name. Jane stood up to go and looked back at her friend. She grabbed a hold of her hand, and said, ” Come with me, I don’t want to go in there alone”. With this the two girls went through the door separating them from the waiting room and the doctor.

They only waited a moment, and then Beth, the nurse walked in. She looked at the two girls and asked, “Which one of you is the patient”? Jane replied, ” I am”. With this being decided, the nurse took Jane’s temperature, and listened to her heart. She made some notations on the new file for Jane. She then reached up into the glass cupboard doors, and grabbed a plastic cup. She took it to Jane and said, ” I need you to take this cup and go into the bathroom. When you pull your panties down, you will see some disposable wipes. Wipe yourself from front to back, and then urinate in the cup. Then leave the cup on the back of the stool, and I will come in and get it”.

Jane’s face turned bright red, as she did not usually talk about going to the bathroom. She took the cup from Beth, and walked across the hall, doing what she had been told to do. Soon she walked back in and told the nurse she was finished, and then the nurse disappeared out of the room.

The two girls sat there quietly. They looked the room over, standing up and walking to each picture hanging on the wall, and looking through the glass cupboard doors at all the strange things sitting in there.

Soon the door opened and this time it was not Beth, but instead if was a doctor. He introduced himself as Doctor Bill, and he took the file of Jane’s and sat it on the counter top, reading the results.

He looked at the girls, and asked, ” Which one of you is Jane”? Jane rose her hand half-way, and the doctor asked, ” Do  your parents know that you are here”? Jane shook her head no. The doctor continued, ” You may want to explain to them where you have been, because the test results for pregnancy are positive. You can have your parents call me if they have any questions”.

Jane’s eyes began to water, and Laurie sat dumbfounded. The doctor walked over to where Jane was sitting and shook her hand and wished her good luck in her future. Doctor Bill then opened the door and closed it behind him, leaving the girls to sit there and digest the news.

Beth came back into the room, and sat in the empty chair beside the girls. She handed Jane some pamphlets explaining childbirth. Jane started to look through them, but when she came to the second page, and saw the diagram of a uterus, she closed the pages.

The nurse explained to Jane that she  had options. She said,” Not every woman is always ready for raising  a child. If, after you talk to your parents about this, and you decide you do not want to keep your baby, there is always adoption”. Beth handed her another handbook, that explained the process of adoption, and then asked Jane if she had any questions, and Jane nodded no.

With the conversation being ended, Beth led the two girls back out through the door, and said,” If you need someone to talk to or have any questions, just come back and see me Jane. I know this is going to be a tough decision for you, and there will be many changes in your life”.

Jane gave a small smile, and turned and walked through the exit door. The two girls went immediately to the soda fountain. They found a booth towards the back of the restaurant. The lights were dim,  and no one sat this close to the door that led to the kitchen. The girls could talk here in private.

Chapter 3

Human embryo at six weeks gestational age

The next morning brought a rush to the bathroom, seeing a girl bent over the toilet throwing up. She finished and got up and looked in the mirror and looking at her reflection, she knew that she was pregnant.

How was she going to tell her mom and dad? How was she going to tell Henry? She washed her face off and went back to her bedroom and laid down on her bed. She didn’t want to live, she just wanted to lay here and die. What had she done to herself?

Fear took over and she began to weep. She buried her head in her hands and cried until there were no more tears to come. She rolled over on her side and reached down with her hand and touched her belly. Nothing felt different, she didn’t feel anything, but inside she knew.

She didn’t know what to do, where to go. Were her parents going to kick her out of the house? Where would she live? Maybe she could get rid of this baby. The first thing she needed to do was find out if indeed, she was really pregnant.

She got up off the bed and got dressed, and went to the kitchen and poured herself a cup of coffee. Maybe she would drink two cups, maybe that would make this thing growing inside of her, go away. She sat at the table thinking what she should do next, and then decided to walk over to her friend’s house to seek some advice.

Finishing her one cup she headed over to her friends and knocked on the back door. Laurie’s mother answered the door with a big smile, letting her in, and telling her that Laurie was in her room, cleaning. Jane thanked her and walked towards her friend’s bedroom door and knocked. She heard a voice saying come in, so she opened the door and shutting it behind her, she went over and sat on the bed.

Laurie turned her radio down, and went over and plopped herself on the bed beside her and said,” What’s up? What have you been doing with yourself? I didn’t see you too much yesterday.”

With hearing these words, Jane broke down in tears again, and Laurie put her arms around her and said,” Hey, no matter what’s happening, it can’t be that bad. Tell me what’s going on? Did you and your mom have a fight?”

Jane looked up at her friend and quieted her sobbing long enough to tell Laurie, she just knew she had blown it. She knew that she was in big trouble, she was  pretty sure she was pregnant.

Laurie dropped her arms from around her friend, and stood up, walking over to her vanity and sitting down, looking at herself in the mirror, and asking Jane, “Are you sure? Have you gone to the doctor?” Jane shook her head saying no she had not seen a doctor. How could she go to a doctor? Wouldn’t the doctor call her mom and tell her?

Laurie stated as if she was an expert on the topic, ” No, doctors can’t say a word to anyone. They have some code or something that makes them keep their mouths quiet. Your mom and dad will never know. What you need to do girl, is get an appointment, and find out for sure. Here you are falling apart, and you don’t even know for sure!”

She walked over to her bed again and sat down with Jane, and opened up her bedside table drawer, and pulled out the phone book. She looked at Jane and asked, Who is your doctor? Do you want to go to the doctor that your parents go to, or do you want to go to someone who don’t know you?”

Jane thought it over for a second, and then said, ” What do you think the doctor will do to me? Is he going to make me get undressed? Do you think he will look down there?” Laurie laughed and said, ” No silly, you will go into the doctor’s office, and just pee in a cup. Then they do some kind of test with it, using a bunny, and if the bunny dies, you are pregnant, and if the bunny lives, this is a false alarm!”

Jane thought for a quick second, and then said, ” Well, if that is all that is going to happen, then let’s go to that clinic over on West Main Street. No one will know me there, and I can pee in a cup just as easy there as I could in front of my own doctor.”

Laurie thought that was a cool idea and said, “Hey, they are open today, and I don’t think you need an appointment. Go back to your house and put some clothes on that make you look older, then come back here. While you are gone, I will change my clothes too. We want to go in there looking like we know what we are doing, right?” Jane nodded and stood up and Laurie walked her to the door. Jane turned to Laurie and gave her a big hug and told her thanks for being her friend, and to please not say anything to her  mom about this, and Laurie, crossed her two fingers and promised, she would not say a word.

With this Jane ran back over to her house, and the two girls were busy now trying to make themselves look a few years older. After Laurie felt confident she looked her best, she went and found her mom, and said that Jane had to run some errands for her mom, and was it alright if she went with her.

Her mom said it was fine, and to have a good time, and to stay out of trouble. Laurie promised and went back to her room to wait for her friend. It took a while, but soon Jane was knocking on the door, and when Laurie opened the door, she stood there staring at Jane, and said,” Wow, girl, you look so cool! No one would know that you were only 16!”

Write a summary of the book you’ve always wanted to write for the back cover of its dust jacket.

It just so happens that last week, I finished my first book. I am now in the process, with a friend’s help, of trying to get it to look like a book, so that I can leave behind something I did, all by myself!

Take a young girl, who dreamed of becoming a dancer and instructor. Add to that, a mixture of not so perfect parents, an illness, and the desire to get through anything in life Have you ever wanted something so bad that you would not let anything or anyone stop you? Did you ever wish you had someone who was cheering you on towards that goal?

This is what my book is all about. Life, real life events, feelings and love.

About the author,

A woman who has always been part of healing. Healing others who are sick, or who are close to dying. A woman from the mid west, mother of three, grandmother of eight. A caregiver for most of her life. Writer, author, lover of antiques, and slavery.

Chapter 2

English: A bowl of Raisin Bran cereal shown in...

Jane tried to get up again, and ended up running to the bathroom and throwing up in the toilet. She sat down on the cold floor after finishing and sat there, her mind whirling, as she had heard that this could be the signs of being knocked up.

Her mom was going to kill her if she was, so she kept it a secret, that she had just puked. After sitting there for a bit, she staggered up and washed her face in cold water, ran a brush through her hair, and brushed the nasty taste out of her mouth.

She walked back into her room, and sat on the bed. Was she pregnant, oh God, she couldn’t be pregnant. They had only fooled around one time, and you couldn’t get pregnant after only one time, could you?

She laid back down on her bed again, and pulled her covers up, telling herself she would just lay here until everything on the inside was nice and calm again. When she woke up it was an hour later. She sat up and felt fine, no bad or sick feelings, so she figured it must have been something she had eaten last night. Nope, she wasn’t pregnant. Wow, what a relief that was.

She got up and got dressed and went into the kitchen and poured herself a bowl of Raisin Bran, and dumping some sugar and milk over it, she took the bowl and went over to the table and sat down to eat. As she was eating her mom walked into the kitchen and started the coffee maker.

Lighting a cigarette, she went over and sat down beside Jane and asked her if she had a good time last night with that guy named Henry. Between bites, Jane mumbled yes, it was alright. Her mom asked when she got home, and Jane said around ten, and with that the conversation ended, and her mom went and poured herself a cup of coffee.

Jane got up and took her bowl to the sink, and ran some water inside of it and then left the kitchen and went back to her room. She turned on her record player, playing her forty-fives and sat down at her vanity and put her make-up on and tried experimenting with her hair.

In the end, she didn’t like anything she had done with her hair, so she pulled it up and put a rubber band in it, forming a pony tail, and with that she walked over and flipped the record player off, and went outside.

She went down to the lake to see if there was anyone there she knew, and seeing a couple of girls, she went over and joined the group. They hung out for a while, and then Jane saw Henry and left the two saying she had a good time, see you later.

Henry gave her a good squeeze and asked her what she wanted do today, and Jane came back with she didn’t care, whatever he wanted to do. He grabbed her hand and the two walked the beach, kicking their feet in the sand, stopping every once in a while, to hug and kiss. They walked and then found a grassy area, hidden behind a bunch of rocks.

The two sat down on the grass and looked out over the lake and then they looked at each other, and then they found themselves lying in the grass, touching and feeling each other, kissing and hugging. Not being able to stand the inner crying anymore, they got up and walked back to his car, and he drove them to a quiet spot on the other side of the lake and the two had sex.

Afterwards, they both realized they were hungry, so he drove them to a fast diner, and pulled up and parked. The two walked in and ordered a burger, fries and shake. They sat down and waited for their order, and then began eating like they had never eaten before. The food was so good, that conversation was small and soon they were finished eating, and they got back in his car and went back to the lake.

They ran into the crowd that they hung out with and they all played frisbee, and swam, and just had a fun day with no thoughts for tomorrow. Before anyone realized it, it was getting supper time, so they said their see you later, and they all drifted off in their own direction.

Henry drove Jane home and dropped her off in front of her house, and giving her a kiss, he watched her go to the door and then he drove off. Jane walked in and sat down in the living room. Jane,  her mom, was sitting there  watching the television, and Dave, her dad was nowhere to be seen.

Debbie asked Jane if she had a good day, but didn’t look at her for an answer, but went back to her television program. Jane didn’t answer but instead went into the kitchen to see what was going to be for supper. Nothing was laid out on the kitchen counter, and so she opened the refrigerator door and looked at the half-gallon of milk, and some orange juice.

She went back into the living room and asked her mom what was for dinner, and Debbie replied that she hadn’t really thought about it. She looked up at the clock on the wall and asked Jane if she was hungry already, and Jane shrugged her shoulders. With her mom not making any move to fix food, she wandered back into the kitchen and looked in the cupboards, and grabbed some crackers and a Twinkie, and took this back to her bedroom. She guessed this would be her supper for the night.

What a mom she had, stuck in a television box and not caring about anything going on around her. Her dad was probably already at the local bar, getting drunk. This was a screwed up family, Jane thought to herself. She wished she had a different set of parents, someone who gave a crap about her.

After eating her supper, she went back into the living room and her mom was still sitting in the same spot. Jane sat down and tried to get interested in the dumb game show mom was watching, but grew bored quickly, so she got up and walked outside to sit on the porch steps.

She needed a new life, a new adventure. Why was she the only one on the block that had a boring life? Why couldn’t she live in the house across the street where those parents seemed involved with their own two kids. She always saw them getting in the car together and going places. Their lives had to be better than her own life.

Bored from sitting , she got up and walked back in the house, and went to her room, turned her radio on and changed into her night-gown and got into bed.

Chapter 1

Jane looked into Henry’s eyes with desire, letting him know that the moment was now.

Chevy Belair ´55

The passion building between the two had peaked, although the two knew it was wrong, there was no holding back. Henry pulled his car off to the side of the road, and he put it in park, and opening the door, he went over to Jane’s side and opened her door, and then helped her into the back seat of the car.

He went over to his side and crawled in, scooting as close as he could to her. He pushed her hair back, and whispered in her ear how much he loved her and that one day they were going to be married. Hearing these words, Jane, laid down on the seat, and raised her skirt, then directed  his hands to where she wanted to be touched.

Henry’s hands probed her body, finding and touching areas, that had never been touched before. He reached up and pulled his shirt out of his jeans, and Jane helped him unbutton his shirt. He slipped his shirt off, allowing her to run her fingers over the hair that lay nestled in the middle of his chest, and he grabbed her hair and pulling her head back, he began to kiss her neck and nibble on her tender ears.

He heard moans coming from within her body, nudging him to continue to go further, reaching for her inner soul, begging for release. He kissed her lips hard with passion, and with one hand, he unzipped his pants and brought her hand to his manhood, begging to be fondled.

Her hand had never felt this before and as she hesitated, he guided her hand, commanding performance, raising the intensity of desire between the two. His hand then went back to the warmth of her body, and when he knew the time was perfect, he scooted her farther down on the seat, and he took her virginity.

The screams and moans drove him further into her, and within minutes he was finished, and helped her up and they both placed their clothes back on to where they were originally placed.

He cracked the window and reached over to the front seat and grabbed his pack of cigarettes and took one out and lit it, letting the smoke blow out of the side window. He offered her one, but she refused, letting him know that she didn’t smoke. He said,” Was it as good for you babe, as it was for me?” Jane replied,” I have never felt anything like this before. My body feels hot and a little sore, but I liked it, no I loved it!”

Henry told her,” I didn’t mean to hurt you doll, your body just drove me crazy, and I had to have you.”  Jane nodded her head, letting him know that she understood what he was saying. She scooted over a little closer to him, and snuggled her head in his shoulder. He placed his arm around her and giving her a squeeze, he finished his smoke, and looked at his watch, and told her he probably should get her home, so that she didn’t get grounded by her parents.

The two got out of the car and sat back down in the front seat. Henry leaned over and gave her a kiss on her lips, and said, ” I love you babe, you were great. One of these days, when I get some money saved up, you and I are getting hitched.” Jane smiled at him and with this, he started the car and pulled back out on the highway, and drove her home.

When they arrived at her house, he reached over her and opened her car door, and giving her another hard kiss on the lips, he told her goodbye and that he would call her. She got out and leaning back into the car, she told him she loved him, and with her hands, blew him a kiss, smiled, then turned around and headed for the door.

He watched her walk up  to her front door and waved to her when she turned back to look at him, and then she went in and he drove to his home, thinking to himself, how lucky he was to have found a girl who loved him, and she didn’t have any trouble proving it to him either.

He pulled up in his parents drive-way, and turning the motor off, he grabbed the keys, and let himself out of the door, and closing the door softly, he walked up to the door and let himself in. He found his mom, Carol, sitting at the kitchen table, bent over in a drunken stooper, and his father, George, was snoring in front of the television, in his easy chair.

He did not want to wake them, so he took the stairs three at a time, arriving quickly at his closed bedroom door. He opened it up and walked in and threw his wallet on the night stand, and sitting on the bed, he took off his loafers and socks, stood up and unzipped his jeans, and taking them off, he pulled back his bed covers and crawled inside, and covering up to his neck, he laid  there, reliving the night’s activities. He sure did love this girl, and he was going to marry her, but it was going to take some time to save money up from working part-time at the grocery store and the bowling alley.

It was summer, and school was out, so Henry and Jane spent every free moment together. They lived near each other, and also were within walking distance of the lake, so the two of them went swimming a lot,and hung out with all of their friends. Days were spent in laughter and evenings were spent in  passion.

This pattern continued on for a few weeks, and then one morning, Jane got up in the morning, but instead of jumping out of bed, like she usually did, she laid back down, because her stomach was churning, and she felt like she was going to throw up.

Continuing Story Part 32

The next day Drake and Dahlia found some free time and Dahlia asked him to accompany

dahlia

her to the jewelry store so that they could pick out his ring for their wedding. They walked to town, hand in hand, and window shopped at each store they came upon. Drake was explaining what items were placed in the windows for all to see. The two of them found themselves adding notations to what they would like to put in their own home. Drake opened the jewelry store door and let Dahlia enter. They went to the counter and Drake said they were here to find a matching band for the rings that he had picked out for his bride to be. The sales lady took out the order from his purchase and found a band that matched perfectly. Dahlia asked him if he liked it and did it fit alright, and Drake just gave her a big hug to show how much he loved it. She told the lady that she would take it and she pulled out her money to pay for it and then had the lady keep it put back for her until it got closer to the wedding. They all said good bye and then left the store.

With Drew’s illness, classes and tutoring the students, the two found time ticking quickly by. It was now two months before graduation, so they decided while they were in town, to go to the florist shop and actually place an order, instead of dream shopping only.

The florist was very nice and eager to help the couple. They each told about the colors they wanted and what time of day the wedding was going to be, and putting their heads together, they decided on red dahlias, that would be showing their full beauty on the day of their wedding to compliment their love for each other. They also ordered some rose petals to be placed on the church aisle where the two would be walking down to receive each other. There were going to be small white buds of different flowers that were going to have white ribbons surrounding them, and these could be hung at each pew. The cost of these flowers was more expensive than they had wished for, but they went ahead with it, knowing this would be a day they would never repeat with any other again.

After leaving there, they compared notes with what needed to be done yet. Drake had his suit, and he had her rings on hold at the jewelry store and she had her dress, and now his ring, and  the church had been reserved, the minister had been talked to and had committed to the date. The flowers were ordered. All that was left was the food and the finishing of the guest lists. The guest list was going to be small and intimate. Family, and close friends from school.

Drake had Drew who was going to be his best man, but Dahlia noted that she had no one to walk her down the aisle, but she knew that Sue was going to stand up with her. The two of them looked at each other and both knew where they wanted to go, so they headed back home, and went in and told Rachel and Ralph that they were going to pay a visit to Dahlia’s father, and then they got into the family car and took off for his house.

Upon arrival, they got out and went to the door and knocked. No one answered, so they knocked again. The door opened and Drake saw  Dahlia’s father standing  there looking like death warmed over. Drake and Dahlia entered and helped her father back into his chair.

The three visited and Dahlia asked her father if there was anything that needed to be done around the house and had he eaten lunch yet, and her father replied, he wasn’t hungry, and the house was fine.

Dahlia wanted to help her father, but she did not know quite how to be of help. She could cook though, and maybe this was a way of showing him that she cared about him.

She asked her father if he would be willing to let her  fix them some lunch, and he did not say yes or no, so she found her way into the kitchen and opened the refrigerator and cupboards to feel  what was available to  fix them for the noon meal. Everything seemed so empty. There was an egg box with two eggs that were stuck to the inside.  When she opened the jug, she could smell that it was once milk and had now soured, and it was almost empty. There was a few slices of  cheese, but she could not tell if it was outdated or not, and the cupboards were not much better.

She walked back into the living room and took Drake aside and explained the despair of the kitchen, and he immediately told her father that they were going  to go to the grocery store to replenish his kitchen cupboards and fill up his refrigerator. Her father didn’t say anything, and  neither did he argue, but instead he pulled out his wallet and offered them some money, saying it wasn’t too much, but here is what he had.

She gave Drake a kiss and thanked him for his help and understanding and the two  headed for the store. They left him sitting at the house wondering why they were being so kind to him. After all he did not deserve even a visit.

Soon the two were  back and filled his refrigerator and cupboard shelves back to a decent spot. She then proceeded to fix them lunch. She took lettuce and washed it and tore it apart, and laid a leaf on three plates. Then she washed some tomatoes and cored them out and placed tuna mixed with eggs in the cavity of each tomato. She called out to them and let them know lunch was ready and soon all were sitting at the table, eating and talking.

Dahlia could feel  that this visit they paid to her father was a good one. In no time at all a quietness was turned into more laughter. He was glad for the conversation, and it took some of the loneliness out of his day. He enjoyed having his daughter in his presence.

After lunch was finished and the table cleared, they went back into the living room and all sat down. Dahlia told her father she had an important question to ask him and he said what is it. She explained that their wedding was coming up soon, in two months, and they had almost everything planned or purchased, but there was one thing missing from the wedding. Her father said nothing but was listening and paying attention. She went on to say, that their wedding would be perfect, if he would agree to walk her down the aisle.

Her father instantly teared up and tried hiding it by wiping his eyes. He told her that he never thought that this day would happen, that his little girl would grow up and become a woman and be happy. To be getting married to such a nice man and to want her own father to walk her down the aisle, could only be a miracle to him, a prayer that had been answered. He took a hold of both of her hands and said he would love to be involved, and nothing could keep him from being there. The two hugged each other, and then Drake  noted the time, and said that they needed to get back to the house. They all stood up and walked to the front door together and with hugs, they left him a  happier and healthier man.

Continuing Story Part 30

The days went by at school for the following weeks and Dahlia found herself loving her assistance job of helping tutor the dance students. Her teacher said that she was doing great work and that she could see improvements in the students work.

Drew continued to have his headaches, some days were not bad and other days, he had to have a fill-in teacher replace him, as his  headaches would place him in bed for the day. Several visits were made to the doctor for check-ups for Drew, and the doctor said the same repeat words each time. There is nothing that he can do anymore but to prescribe the pain medications, and that Drew’s life was now in God’s hands. Each Sunday the church would pray for Drew and there were even special times when hands were laid on Drew for healing.

Drake spent a lot of time with his students and helping them to get prepared for final exams. He stayed many afternoons with students that were requesting help, and if he was not doing this, he was spending time with his brother Drew, trying to comfort him by sitting with him for hours at a time.

When Dahlia had spare time, she would get a ride and go over and visit with her father. Her visits at first were strained, but each time she went to him, she learned more and more about him and within a month, the two found themselves not wanting to leave each other. Her father asked her once if she would consider moving back into the family home, but Dahlia declined his request, stating she had school to finish, and that she was planning on being married the day after graduation. She also was planning on having a job lined up before school was over.

She explained to him that although the two of them had drawn much closer, she could not do as he wished, but she would continue to visit. The hours they visited with each other were filled with many questions and through these talks many questions had been answered.

On Saturdays, Drake and Dahlia went shopping. They had went to the church and asked for an open date for their wedding and asked the minister if he would kindly marry them, and the minister had agreed to both of their request. The two went shopping also for Dahlia’s wedding dress and Drake found a nice suit for himself. He was going to wear a jet-black suit, with a white shirt underneath, with a sky-blue tie. They found a dress for Dahlia, and she used some of the money left to her from her mother, and picked out a dream dress, every little girl wants.

The dress was virgin white in color, and it was tight-fitted at the waist. The dress was knee-length, and under the taffeta was layers of lace that was so beautiful to her touch. Covering the entire dress was baby pearls. The neck was a scoop neck line. The veil that matched was a veil that protruded half-way down her back. It was made of total lace and the head-piece was decorated in baby lilies, with pearls mixed in between the flowers. She had no need to have anything done to the dress as far as altering, as the dress fit perfectly. She paid for the dress and left it at the store for safe keeping.

Dahlia and Drake met up at the little town cafe after their shopping for their outfits, and they had lunch. Dahlia was so excited over her dress. She explained to him how it felt on her and how it felt when she ran her fingers over the lace and the little pearls. She said that she hoped he would love it as much as she did, and he said not to worry, he would love her if she wore only her every day dress. She smiled at him when he said this, and he reached under the table and squeezed her leg to let her know how much he loved her this very minute.

After they ate their lunch, he took her and walked her out the door and they walked a few doors down and he opened a door and told her to follow him in. She asked where they were and he told her they were at the jewelry store where he had purchased her ring.

He led her to the counter and when the sales girl approached them, he asked to see pearl earrings. Dahlia could not believe he was going to consider buying her another gift. She remained quiet as the sales girl showed Drake a few sets of what she thought he may like. Without asking Dahlia, he picked out a pair that he knew would look perfect on her delicate ear lobes, and told the lady that he wanted to purchase these, and he held the box out to her. She said that he had made a wonderful choice, and she reached over and placed her hand over Dahlia’s hand, and said, you are a lucky lady to have found a man with such wonderful taste, and this made Dahlia smile. She also made a mental note to herself that she needed to come back here on her first free day and pick out a ring for Drake.

The two walked out of the store hand in hand, the box in Drake’s pocket and each were smiling at the world and to them, there was no one else on the streets. They walked home and the house was quiet. Drake called out but no one answered. As he went through the house, he came into the kitchen and found a note for him left on the table.

It said that Drew had begun vomiting and there was traces of blood in it.They had called the doctor and the doctor ordered them to bring Drew to the hospital and he would meet them there.

Drake read the letter to Dahlia and he told her he needed to go to the hospital now, and did she want to go along or to stay here, and she answered quickly, that she considered him a part of her family, and she wanted to be nowhere else but there with him also.

Continuing Story Part 24

When Dahlia heard the knock on the door, she asked who it was, and the deep voice answered. She went to the door and opened it and let Drake in. He shut the door behind him and turning towards her, he took her in his arms and kissed her passionately and firmly on the lips. She responded back, not even thinking twice, letting his hands run through her hair, down her back and around her waist.

She could feel herself shiver inside, muscles twitching, as his love poured through his fingers. Before anything could be taken further with the mind, he let go of her and walked her towards her bed. He sat her down, and took her hand and wrapped it around the flower. She instantly inhaled its perfume, and then he took that away from her and replaced it with the small box.

Dahlia asked him what this was, and he said to open it. She did as she was told, and her fingers grasped the bracelet. Fingers encircling the delicate band, he asked her if she liked it, and she exclaimed that she loved it, that he had given it to her and she would always cherish it. With these words, he asked her if he could have the honor of placing it on her wrist, and she held her arm up for him to put in on.

Taking the rose back she leaned in close to him, thanking him and telling him that she was so in love with him. He laid her on the bed, and laying beside her he kissed her once again, with tenderness and passion. Her body rose to him, but he would not let himself do anything that would bring disrespect to her. He treasured her and he would not shame her. The right time would come and then he would show her how he felt about her, and profess his love to every part of her being.

He had a hard time controlling himself, and so he sat her back up, and taking both of her hands in his, he asked her if she was certain that she loved him, and she said oh yes, Drake, I love you more than life itself.

He then stood up from the bed and kneeling in between her legs, he pulled her head close to his and whispering in her ear, he asked her if she would consider being his wife. A gasp came from deep in her throat, as she threw her arms around his neck, and said yes. Drake could see the tears forming in her eyes, and this in turn, caused him to want to burst with love. He stood back up and once again laid her down, and found himself lying next to her body.

He touched her hair, then moved gently down her cheeks  touching her nose, and running his fingers over her closed lids. Excitement was building from within him and he could see her rib cage expanding faster with her own hidden desires. His hand found its way down to the curves of her breast, and he cupped his hand around one, holding it like it was gold. Her own hands reached around his neck and drew him closer. Their breathing became one, as he found his hand raising her dress and sliding into areas of deep pools of love.

She guided his hand to places that had never been discovered before, and he touched the virgin spot. Her body rose and lowered to his touch, and she could feel warmth flowing from her veins. His hands began to tremble as his heart was beginning to take over. He looked into her face and saw that she was in sync with him, but he knew this was wrong.

He slowly took his hand away from her pool, and lowered her dress, and sat up. He pulled her gently up and told her he wanted her so badly, but he could not spoil her innocence with his desires. He made her promise that when school was out, that she would marry him the day after graduation, and she agreed. Both sitting on the bed, they held each other and whispered love into each others ears, and then he sat up, and looked into her eyes, and said he  must go now before he could never turn back, and he walked out of her bedroom door, leaving her sitting on the bed, touching the bracelet, and her heart trying to slow down. She was in love and she wanted to scream it to the world. All she could do was smile and dream of her wedding day.

Sunday she floated through the activities of church and meals and chores. She tried to study but found it hard, as her mind drifted back to Drake. Six month to go, six months until she became Drake’s wife. Soon the day was over, and school began again the next morning, and she drifted off to sleep with visions of Drake.

In the kitchen while everyone else was asleep or in their rooms, Rachel and Ralph were sitting at the kitchen table with Drew. The discussion was about his illness and what had happened. Was he willing to go back to the doctor to see if something had happened to make this bad part of him come to life once again.

Although, Drew seemed cocky earlier in the day, the truth was, that he had plenty of time to think about what he had done to Dahlia, and he was ashamed. He loved his brother and he would never want to hurt him, and he himself didn’t know why he had even went to her. What had caused this? He hung his head down to the table and asked his parents for help. Please help me, I don’t want to be like this, I feel so sick inside. Ralph and Rachel took their sons hands and promised to call the doctor in the morning, and they said that together they would find the answers, but he, Drew, must stay away from Dahlia or any other lady, and if he felt something coming over him, he should come immediately to them.

The next day came, and as soon as everyone was at school, Rachel made the call to the doctor’s office. The doctor seemed a little surprised, since so many years had gone by, and had the receptionist set them an appointment right away. With this confirmation, Rachel felt that at least now they were going to get help. They would get this fixed with the doctor’s help.

Meanwhile, at school, Dahlia was working very hard on the dance floor. She was making great progress, and the teacher expressed this to her, telling her that she believed Dahlia was the top student in her class. The teacher went on to say that hard work makes perfect, and she could see that Dahlia had indeed been working hard. The teacher asked her if she thought she may be able to help her tutor another student. That she had received a call of a special needs student, that needed extra help. The teacher said for her to give it plenty of thought, that it would almost seem like a real job with the work that was put into it. Dahlia asked the teacher if she thought she was really good enough to help someone else, and the reply was yes. Dahlia promised to give it some thought.
