https://dailypost.wordpress.com/prompts/narcissism/

The word for today is; Narcissism

excessive or erotic interest in oneself and one’s physical appearance.
synonyms: vanityself-loveself-admirationself-absorption, self-obsession, conceit, self-centeredness, self-regardegotismegoism

“his emotional development was hindered by his mother’s narcissism”
  • PSYCHOLOGY
extreme selfishness, with a grandiose view of one’s own talents and a craving for admiration, as characterizing a personality type.
  • PSYCHOANALYSIS
self-centeredness arising from failure to distinguish the self from external objects, either in very young babies or as a feature of mental disorder.

I don’t know when I recognized it; but it seems for years. I never have enjoyed being in the company of vain, (narcissistic) people. I think a little bit of the reason is; it makes me feel small.

I usually back a way or become more quiet. I find myself questioning who I am when I am alone. I prefer to be in the surroundings of people who believe in we are all for one and one for all.

I am no better than you. You are no better than me. It is sometimes jealousy that tries to come to surface when I see a prettier made-up face than mine, or people dressed better than me and even homes that I wish I still lived in can bother me.

It is stupid to think like this. God has me right where he wants me. I always told myself, if I was beautiful; I may be a snob. If I was rich; I wouldn’t help others. I end up shaking those nasty feelings off of me rather quickly and thank our Lord for giving me what I have and watching over me.

Daily Prompt/ One Word Prompt

https://dailypost.wordpress.com/prompts/premature/

The word for today is Premature

Premature brings to mind instantly a baby. Those poor, tiny little babies that are born before their time or have health issues or are the babies of addicts. Are there any other ways we could use this word?

How about John’s premature death? Or maybe we have all been guilty once of judging, making a premature decision. Maybe it was premature to go in and ask the boss for a raise.

Is it premature when a teen in high school thinks he saw a suspicious character outside the class window? Should he be more sure or alert the authorities? What about the train that arrived prematurely? I bet those passengers waiting on it were excited to be leaving earlier than planned.

Here in Indiana, the weather can be warm and then cold the next day. Sometimes we get premature flowers and buds and then without notice they die from the cold coming in again. We missed the beautiful show of flowers.

What other ways can you think of to use the word?

Daily Prompt/ One Word Prompt

https://dailypost.wordpress.com/prompts/infect/

The word for today is; Infect

This is an interesting word as if actually pertains to today at a meeting I was involved with. When you have a few people gathered together, the truth usually comes out, even if it is in a gossiping situation. People don’t seem so afraid to speak their mind.

The more people involved in this sharing experience; the more the stories change a bit. Some don’t want others to know how they truly feel, so they become quiet, for fear of being laughed at or not agreed with. Others embellish a little to sound a little bit more informed.

Then there are those who speak according to who they are in front of. The story changes according to who is listening. Either way, the truth sometimes becomes less fact, or a little bit of fiction.

I am not a very good liar. I tell the truth, but when I am in a crowd and begin to carry that doubt in my head saying, be careful what you say, they may laugh, I usually end up being very quiet or shrug my shoulders. I kick myself when I am alone because I know I am entitled to my opinion and can speak it; as long as I do it with dignity and grace.

So be careful what you say. Don’t infect others with nothing less than the facts for any reason. It is not appreciated when others learn about what you said, and it is a sign of immaturity. Now, I need to become more mature, and open my mouth when asked.

Daily Prompt/ One Word Prompt

https://dailypost.wordpress.com/prompts/pedigree/

The word for today is; Pedigree

ped·i·gree
ˈpedəˌɡrē/
noun
  1. 1.
the record of descent of an animal, showing it to be purebred.
  2. 2.
the recorded ancestry, especially upper-class ancestry, of a person or family.
synonyms: ancestrydescentlineage, line (of descent), genealogyfamily treeextractionderivation, origin(s), heritageparentagebloodlinedual heritagebackground, roots

    “a long pedigree”

It took me a few years in school to realize there were different breeds of people and along with these; others were noticing also. I no longer was able to make friends easily with everyone in class.

Friends were chosen by their Pedigree. It used to hurt my feelings that kids I had been friends with in elementary school, which I attended, were no longer my friends. Not all of them left me behind, but some did.

I learned to make my own friends in the upper grades and in high school, I did okay.

I liked it better when people weren’t categorized into fancy homes, income brackets and race. Everyone liked everyone for their laughter and spirit.

I still don’t like it that I had to grow up and raise my family, paying mortgages or rent according to where the location was. People got nominated because of their last names. Promotions came easily if you were so-and-so.

Now that I live in a retirement building, we don’t look at how much money we have or had. We are all basically in the same boat. Survival, making friends, trying to not be lonely, is the name of the game. Laughter is looked for everywhere. A friend to confide in is important. Social dining is of the utmost importance.

Most of us realize this is our last home on the way to heaven’s gates. We have to make the most of each day or give up and wait to die.

So, I say, I am safe, have a few friends, laugh when I can, and hopefully, I won’t die for a few years yet.terry

https://dailypost.wordpress.com/prompts/slight/

The word for today is; slight

What a simple-to-say word, although it can be put to the strain in definition.

There was a slight accident; I don’t understand how it was a total loss.

I told the truth. I just slightly eliminated a couple of things.

We had a slight misunderstanding, the daughter told her mother, while her mother was staring at her daughter’s black eye.

Daughter in the Emergency room

Police surrounding the bed

Asking questions about what had happened

Car doors shut can be heard loud and clear

As husband is taken to the local jail.

“I don’t know what happened. We only had a slight disagreement.”

Daily Prompt/ One Word Prompt

https://dailypost.wordpress.com/prompts/skewed/

The word for today is; Skewed

suddenly change direction or position.
“the car had skewed across the track”
  • twist or turn or cause to do this.
“he skewed around in his saddle”

I know a guy who acts first and thinks last. For years and years I have tried to guide this man into thinking in a new direction; but it hasn’t worked.

I did the same thing when I was younger and I still catch myself repeating the same mistake today; but not as often.

I enjoy and sometimes have the best days when I do things on an instant thought. Example of thinking; I was going to stay home and do nothing. The text comes in saying come on, get ready, let’s go. I have no time to really think about the what ifs and just do it; finding out it was all worth it.

When you constantly make those rash decisions you eventually end up getting burnt, such as my friend.

I hate riding with people who hold their cell phone, change the radio station or do anything that side tracks them from the road. It bounced and came back hitting him hard.

A car accident, totaled car, personal injuries but alive. He skewed his way to my thinking. I heard,” no more driving with cell up my face, no eating or drinking while driving.” For me, I hope this last. For him; we shall see.

Daily Prompt/ One Word Prompt

https://dailypost.wordpress.com/prompts/forest/

The word for today is; forest

Melody was infamous for being in the center of everything. She crawled to the top by means she thought she would never lower herself to. She shined at the office. She had more friends than she could count on all fingers and toes. Her phone rang inviting her to this social event or meeting. She thought she was certainly a Goddess.

God had been watching this for so long. He gave her hints and signals to change her thinking, to slow down, to give him the thanks for allowing her this prestigious life; but she ignored him. He knew her time was at a close and he had to get her attention before he allowed the devil to have his way with her.

One day she  had an overwhelming time at work. Nothing seemed to fall in place. Meetings didn’t go the way she planned. On her way home, her mind was running through the minutes. A deer ran out from nowhere and because her mind was somewhere else; she was not prepared for what happened next.

She woke up to strange sounds. Eyes were looking at her as if asking why she was invading their land. She ran her fingers through her hair and felt an instant ping of pain. She looked at her hand and there was red on it. She unfastened her seat belt and with great difficulty, twisted and turned her body until she was on the outside of the car.

She fell to the ground, her body weak from the accident. She landed in a tall, feathery mound of grass. Her eyes closed. She slept.

When she awoke, animals sat around her. Sadness mirrored back at her from their eyes. Silence fell heavy around her. Her heart ached. She couldn’t go back. She had failed herself. She failed everyone around her.  Why did she do what she had done? What was the point? Was she really so stupid? What counted? What mattered?

As if the animals could read her mind, they scampered away and brought back, one by one, all the people involved in her life. She stared at each one as they sat filing a circle around her.

“I don’t know why I thought the way I was living and making decisions was the right way. I don’t know what got hold of me. I wonder if I can ever change the situations so that I feel good about myself. The truth is; I haven’t loved myself for so many years.”

She wept and one by one, each person came up to her. They hugged her and told her they would help her. She looked up into the skies and for the first time; she understood.

https://dailypost.wordpress.com/prompts/rebel/

Word for today; Rebel

a person who rises in opposition or armed resistance against an established government or ruler.
I used to hear this word when I was a kid. A family member would speak of a rebel child or a rebel adult. I never really understood what it meant, but today I see it and recognize it.
Actually there are rebels everywhere, mixing and socializing among us. I don’t always recognize them right a way but when I notice my spirit is changing from who I know it is, I think a rebel must have been nearby.
My goal each day is to remain true to myself. This can be a real task because we don’t always know someone is gradually feeding us with rebel thoughts. Gossip is a great way to turn our spirits into something we don’t want.
Political truths and lies plays havoc on our minds and souls. We all want the same things. Working together, honesty, helping each other are just a few. Who do we believe? Which commercial is truth?
What about the new friend we just made? We are pretty sure we want to have that relationship grow and then along comes rebel words. ” Did you hear what she did last weekend? Did you see those clothes they were wearing?” Gossip can be rebel, stronger than government lies.
Nothing is worse than hearing gossip from a friend we trusted for a long time. Finding out it was all a lie hurts, no matter what the reason for the lie was in the beginning.
There are rebels in churches, schools, work force. I guess if you look real hard, you can find a rebel in about any situation. So, be careful, stay true to thine self but yet enjoy your God given talents and don’t forget; always lend a helping word, hand to those in need.
