How to See the New Year

Take one step, then another. Tough isn’t it? Been beat up? Emotionally drained? Tried standing and fell to the ground, laying there weeping?

I know, I know, it can be rough. Been there, done that, but for me, I work on changing what I can, ignoring what I can’t. I am beginning to stand up for myself, speak a little more out loud, and show tears only to my pillow.

Life isn’t easy. Tongues hurt, actions can slice. Friends can be worse than than anything; if you thought they were friends before the bomb dropped. I can’t tell you how many times I have had the ” wish I would have” days, the “should have tried harder”, “should not have given up so quick”, and turned myself inside out weeping into that same, old pillow.

It isn’t right though, you know? We weren’t put here on earth to be run over or walked on. Life should show a little more right? Spouses should say I love you one more time. Bosses should respect the hard work we put in.

Kids shouldn’t be disrespectful. Paychecks should be larger. The poor should gain a little more for the mere effort they are still surviving. The wealthy should give more.

I could go on and on, but why, you already know how it works. If you are old enough to live on your own and pay your way in life; you know life can be nasty at times.

On the other side of the coin, we did wake-up this morning. Joints may hurt; but we are still breathing. We ate something before we laid our head down at night.

We were allowed to make more choices than some countries are allowed. We dressed ourselves, fed ourselves. Most of us drove or biked or caught a bus to work.

We can smell the flowers, see the skies, listen to others speak, change the TV stations. I guess we aren’t so bad off are we? We always want things to be better, I get it, but sometimes the more we struggle, the more we appreciate those little things in life.
