It Makes Me Sick

Today while was helping Al to feel the Christmas spirit, outside in the world it was gruesome. In our local news the headlines were, A School Teacher was involved in some form of sexual action with a student. There may have been touching.

This made me ill. How many days and days are we going to hear this? Why didn’t I run for the bathroom and vomit? Because we are getting used to hearing those ugly words. The police are keeping their lips sealed it is so brutal. The school is clamming up but did say they fired the person.

What about the student? Touching? It lets my mind wander? Was he/she hurt? Were they raped?

In another big headline, and I hate using this term like they do. It isn’t headline news. It is sick news. Another school shooting. What is going on? Can this all be blamed on the fact that God is being taken out of the schools? Should the parents be blamed? How do we fix this when the first thing the news does is go into detail about how the shootings happen. What ingredients, guns, forms were used. What a way to give another mixed up person bad ideas to get in the spot light.

Last week a girl who left her home was found in a woods and of course she was dead. She had been missing for some time. She was a teen attacked by a brutal sick person.

I just want to scream I am so sick of  hearing this. I can’t fix it, not all by myself. I don’t even know what it will take to fix the world. Maybe start all over, a new world.earth The words rape, brutal, shootings, teacher molestation, church sexual scandals, drugs, these all make me want to vomit, it all makes me sick, because I can’t fix it.

  1. It doesn’t help that the details are all given out so the culprits have their fame. If they didn’t mention it, it would be less of a problem. Or even just give the most basic of details.

  2. No it is not all because God has been taken out of the schools and public square, a lot of it is because we are losing our sensitivity to violence, sex and all the other moral imperitives. We are hardening our hearts, closing our eyes, putting our hands over our ears and closing our mouths. We turn aside when we see things, we don’t want to get involved, we are teaching our children all of these things and making excuses for them when they do wrong. It does start with the family but at the same time the family is being handcuffed by government and the fear is out there that if they do something to protest, or discipline their children, that the government that they trusted to protect them, will instead be the one to remove their children from them. We have given up what our ancestors took for granted. The ability to teach our children our faith and morals. God bless you Terry!

  3. Hi Terry.
I don’t have anything to make that scream lessen the impact of evil acts perpetrated upon others. I do wish that it were in my power as well to put a stop to senseless evil acts. Thankful that this is not the salvation reward for our faith, we send flowers and we attend to the sick, we hold our loved ones and stroke their hair, we shed tears, and we pray. We pray that God’s Will may somehow, only by a means known to Him, enter into hearts and that His Love would shine forth from us. We know that we are mightily blessed and yet that our blessings are insufficient to save the world. We turn then, inward to that Spirit that filled us and we breath with Him, knowing that Jesus did save our souls from the pernicious ways. Knowing this blessing is upon us and that His Love shines through us, we may boldly say to even the harmed ones that their Father in Heaven is warmly awaiting their return to Him. We say, this path through the world is difficult with truth, but that it is thankfully simple.
Now put one moment next the other and be here with your friends, loved ones and your God.
We need you still with us Terry.
    ~ Eric

  4. Hello, Terry, I don’t have all the answers, but I share your torment at these horrible things happening. And our inability to change our culture from one that exploits and brutalizes kids and women to one where we have respect and caring for each other.

  5. This is why I stopped watching the news. Too much time is given to the shocking stories and not enough on every day heros. I can only hope and pray for the families involved in the school shootings. I really wish the media would stop with those reports as its glorifying the violence and adding to the stigma of having a mental illness. Untreated mental illnesses I believe are the underlying cause, add in hormones and bullying and its a dangerous combination.

  6. Interesting you should post this because my husband and I were talking about the very same thing – so many people are not nice in this world and how self centred as a society we’ve become and when I hear of these teachers or people crossing the line – hurting, terrorizing, murdering people it makes me sick and very sad – I prayer for the children of this world.

    • we have to pray for the children first. You are right. They are defenseless where adults need prayers too but they also know how to act. They were taught as children. Great comment Mom

  7. I agree with you , we hear so many awful things that happen, and can’t do anything about it. Even big children’s celebrities here in Britain have been charged with awful things they apparently did to children. I just can’t believe it htat peopl ewho pretend to like children do that. I can only assume they are not right in their mind. Why would a loveing , caring person do anything to harm anyone.
There is love and care missing in this world. We can only spread it ourselves and hope it gets somewhere. A small start but it is a start.

  8. Terry, to be young today isn’t easy … the pressure from everywhere.
This with teachers and student having affairs has been going on so long as schools has been around,
I can’t say it wrong or right – so long as the student is old enough. I was in love with one of my teachers too, not that I had an affair with him – but who knows what could have happen if I had given it a try. *laughing – we say that the teachers should know better and most of them do.
I don’t know … but I don’t think it has to do with God been taken out of schools, because the same thing has happen over here, no more religion in schools – but we don’t have school shootings … not yet anyhow. It’s all comes down to the values that kids are given at home.
Religion was one of my strongest subjects during my whole school time and even one of my teachers thought I should pursuit down that road, but I just thought it was such interesting subject. Maybe it has changed my views on people around me and made me more open for life and the world. Maybe it taught me to be more acceptable to people.
Still I agree with you – and this with weapons and killing is totally unacceptable – but when we have made violence and killing to entertainment … our world and our kids need a lot more love, care and understanding.

    • that is a big point you made. Violence and killing for entertainment has helped sway weak minds making it a reality for them. It does start at home too I think you are right on that. I just wish it wasn’t growing. An isolated situation is bad enough but it is becoming an every day thing and this is terrible

      • Terry, I’m a strong believer that all the violence we bring into our homes through film and games … has an effect on kids. It’s scary the whole thing – even if we haven’t had any school shooting – people are just stabbed to death on the street in the middle of the day, for what it seems no real reason.
We are a little country of only 9,5 million. Just terrible.

  9. The reality is that sadly most of this comes don to one very simple thing ‘human nature’ from the day one caveman realised the bloke in the next cave had a bigger club or warmer furs there has been violence, in ages gone by we have hurt one another for greed, envy and done it all in the name of one god or another, or for the greater good, or some other noble cause. These days there is no convenient outlet for those who enjoy inflicting suffering to hide their preferences, if you study history you will see that really not much has change rather the contexts have changed sadly understanding that humans are extremely flawed animals does not make it any easier to hear about but it does help you except that some people would turn out bad no matter what, that the only persons actions you can ever be responsible for are your own, and that if in the course of one day you can make one person smile and brighten their day a little then balance can be maintained no matter how unbalanced it may appear because happiness is always worth more to the heart than sadness even if it does not weigh it down as heavily

    • I think what bothers me more is not what you said about people turning against each other for various reasons, it is the children. They are born innocent and being taken advantage of or shot or murdered. Raping young children is the worst in my eyes. Great comment you made my dear friend

      • You see I do believe that some children are not born innocent whether you wish to see it as being born ‘evil’ or simply born with their brains wired up in a way which makes them act in certain ways, yes upbringing can play a part in stopping people acting on desires but it does not stop the desires existing, think of serial killers such as Jeremy Dahmer or Ed Gein as children they took pleasure in torturing and killing animals before moving to people, I am not sure on actual case in the US but here in the UK there have been a few cases of children brutally murdering other children, I am not talking shooting in a fit of childish temper more premeditated violence inflicted to cause maximum pain and suffering one of the most infamous is Mary Bell shocking not just because of her age but also because she was a girl, another featured in a book it was an older sister who murdered her younger brother who was the child of her fathers second wife, this was of course covered up at the time by the family, If you think about people you have known I am sure you will know people who even from being young took pleasure in causing suffering to siblings and those around them, yes they may learn they cannot behave that way but can you honestly say that the part of them that made them do it is gone or is it lurking still deep within, and to an extent we all have that same darkness within us. Even you who are one of the loveliest people I have ever communicated on line with I am pretty sure that if you were ever faced with having to fight to protect your family would be shocked at how easily it would be once you let it lose, though because you are a good person you would feel guilt about it afterwards, really the more you consider what the human is capable of it is more and more scary but just as fascinating at the same time

      • I can see your point very clear. I guess I still believe children are born innocent but wires can be crossed during the forming stages making people like Jefferey act the way they do. It is sad. Some also goes towards the fact in how the mother took care of herself during pregnancy. Did she eat right, do drugs, drink? I am sure all those play a part too. Great chat!

  10. As my pastor frequently tells us, these are the last days. Our world is severely broken. Now more than ever it’s time for people of God to hold fast to Him and pray for this messed up world. Sin is everywhere, negativity runs rampant…I totally agree with what you have written here. Be the light though, and help shine some brightness on all of that darkness. By caring for your brother in the way that you do and sharing it here for the world to see, you’re being that light Terry and I’m thankful for you and for the way you show everyone how to love. So keep doing what you’re doing 🙂 All of that junk isn’t going to stop and it will only get worse. But we can be the light in a dark place, and you definitely are that!

With the beginning of the tearing apart of the mental health hospitals and turning these individuals onto the streets with no where to go and being shut-off cold turkey from medications was the beginning of the end in many ways. Many of these individuals had never lived anywhere except in an institution.

I also believe poor parenting has led to much of what is happening in today’s world. Instead of parenting – children are parked in front of televisions at early ages – they see their parents fight violently between themselves and with other adults. These same children have no positive role models and are tossed about. Often they are told they weren’t wanted, etc.

Guns and drugs play 100% into the destruction of our weakened society. Children see parents use guns and drugs as a cureall and they expect the same solutions in their worlds. I loved it when just this past week, a sherif in Florida told a group of parents to stand up and be responsible for their own children. He was holding them accountable for what their children were doing (some of them as young as 10) and since the children would be sentenced to juvenile, the parents could be charged on felony counts and sent to federal prisons. I really like that idea. When you have a federal charge against you, there’s no plea bargaining – you serve out whatever sentence is handed down and you are never elgible for paraole. The individual has to serve the full term. I like the idea of having the parents being held responsible for what their children are doing.
